Two Poker Stars Acquisitions

Pretty soon you’ll be able to play in Poker Stars tournaments on your cell phone. This week, PokerStars announced its acquisition of a company named Cecure Gaming. They are makers of mobile games known for operating several popular online poker brands, including: Ladbrokes, the World Poker Tour, and Aces Royal.

And as promised in the headline to this story, PokerStars has made not one but two new acquisitions of late, the second being in the form of a new player signed onto the Team PokerStars pro team. This time it’s Jude Ainsworth of Ireland, known on the site a j.thaddeus. He will, in particular, be assigned to strengthening the Team PokerStars UK & Ireland brand.

Jude was the 2008 winner of the Irish Poker Championship (for €145,000) and the 2009 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker $10,000 Main Event (for $963,338). December 11 to 14 Jude plays in the UKIPT event in his hometown of Galway.

PokerStars' Inaugural SCOOP a Smashing Success

The first ever Poker Stars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) has finally come to an end, and the general consensus is that both PokerStars and its members – amateur and pro alike – are thrilled with the outcome.

Among the notable winners of this year’s inaugural 2-week event is Terrence Chan (aka “Unassigned”) who won two SCOOP events, both FL Holdem events – the first the $530 buy-in 6-max event (for $5,200) and the second the $5,200 6-max event (for $134,887).

Meanwhile James Obst (aka “Andy McLEOD”) who won the high-stakes Mixed Holdem event for the $184,000 first prize.

The big winner, though, was Jude Ainsworth (aka “J. Thaddeus”) who took down the $10,300 buy-in main event for $963,338.

One of the biggest attractions of Poker Stars SCOOP was its 3 different playing levels to suit each players budget – with a low stakes buy-in, mid-stakes buy-in, and high-stakes buy-in level for each of the 22 events. The winner of the mid-stakes main event was “J.C. Alvarado” and the winner of the low-stakes main event was “JannotLapin”.

Sounds like come next Spring there’s sure to be a SCOOP II.

PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker Satellites Underway

The PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker – All Stakes with $30 million guaranteed in cash prizes is coming soon–April 2-12, to be exact. And satellites for free entry into many of its 22 poker events, not least of which is the $5 million guaranteed high stakes main event, are already underway.

Satellites for the PokerStars SCOOP, as it’s also called, are being held in the from of FPP reward points qualifiers, STEPS qualifiers, Sit & Go qualifiers, and cash ring game qualifiers. All of these satellite tournaments can be reached by going to your PokerStars lobby and clicking on “Events” and then clicking on “SCOOP”. There you’ll see the full SCOOP satellite schedule.

This year’s SCOOP is particularly exciting as there are really 66 events and not just 22. To explain, we point to the term “All Stakes” added to the end of the annual events usual name, referring to the fact that each event will will actually consist of three different levels: Low Stakes, Mid Stakes, and High Stakes–so that players in every different income bracket can afford to join in on the fun.

Of course, if you win your way into the high stakes events through a PokerStars SCOOP satellite then you don’t really have to be concerned with how much money it costs to buy-in, now do you?
