PokerStars Signs On As WPT Season VII Sponsor

PokerStars has signed on to sponsor Season 7 of the World Poker Tour.

This will give Poker Stars even wider worldwide attention than it’s already received (arguably ever since then-amateur PokerStars player Chris Moneymaker took down the top prize at the 2003 World Series of Poker, proving that anyone really can win), as the sponsorship deal includes all televised WPT Season VII tournaments in Europe (including Germany and Italy) and the U.S., Canada, and the Netherlands.

This also means that, at least in terms of all WPT coverage in the U.S., Full Tilt Poker is out and Poker Stars is in. This is a big deal considering that these two leading poker sites have been neck-and-neck in a near heads-up battle for top position seemingly since their inceptions.

It seems PokerStars and the World Poker Tour will be working very closely to expand both companies’ reach, starting with a Spanish-language and Portuguese-language televised broadcasts for localized events in Latin America, including native commentators.

PokerStars is also the major sponsor of the European Poker Tour, and Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT), and the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT).

2009 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Satellites Underway

Satellites are now underway for the 2009 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.

PokerStars is running both cash qualifiers and FPP qualifiers, so whether you’ve got the money or the comp points, as long as you have the inclination (and the desire to fly to the tropical and exotic Caribbean to participate in an official European Poker Tour event).

The 2009 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure prize package includes not only a buy-in into the Main Event but hotel accommodations and expense money too. The total prize package is worth $14,300.

In addition to the regular FPP and cash qualifiers awarding entry into the 2009 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, PokerStars is also hosting what it calls “Steps Sit & Go” satellites, costing as little as $7.50 in cash or 500 in FPP credits to enter.

The Steps satellite series consists of 6 stages (or “steps”); 6 tournaments that players can buy into directly or win their way into by winning the step previous. Win the 6th step and win your $14,300 PCA prize package. Lose at any step, and you can still try again at the same step or the one below.
